The Dalai Lama wrote a fine book, The Universe in a Single Atom. In it, he explores the topics of quantum physics, cosmology, consciousness and genetics in relation to Buddhism. His Holiness is quite the consumer of science; since childhood, he has held the sciences in high esteem as a significant part of his education. For this poem, I opt to see the Universe in a single tree. Thanks for the read, maybe a share, maybe a follow. photo via University of New Hampshire
Within this Tree. Sonnet 322
It was, it is, a tree in your back yard.
It grants you shade within vermillion leaves.
In its stately wooden way, it stands guard.
Upon its death, would you find time to grieve?
But look far closer, peer within that tree.
A multitude exists within its arms.
It is a fearless epic jubilee
of lives entwined amongst those bark-clad farms.
Now stare with fresh focus at the leaves.
Do you see árbol blood within its veins?
As the tree breathes, can you now believe
within this tree, a universe contains?
With novice mind, consider the tree raw.
With glances everywhere, you will find awe.
