For PrideMonth2025 . This sonnet is a true story. I was driving somewhere, early one morning, and I saw two young women, one dressed for work, kiss goodbye on their front porch. Just as millions of couples around the world do every day. So simple. How could anyone be bothered, offended, insulted? But of course, hate being what it is, there are plenty out there who take offense at, well, everything. Be an ally.
Which means, of course, just be a decent human.

the Silent Kiss. Sonnet 148
They stood on their front porch; I saw them kiss.
‘Twas not a kiss of passion, but of love.
They held hands, hushed, a moment’s quiet bliss,
for the instant, a gift from far above.
I drove on past, I’m sure they didn’t see me;
if they did, they’d have seen my swelling heart.
For I still recall sensations of such life’s glee,
I feel it still, the piercing of love’s dart.
They were young, writ large upon their faces,
signs the world is fresh, all within their grasp.
They wouldst write a book with their own pages,
a love so sure, ne’er would it be unclasped.
These two women, no longer both alone;
their brave first steps, they share the world unknown.
