Nicely said Dave. I deal with oncologists often (my own, and others) and I'm often wondering how they do manage such a heavy emotional load.

I'm glad he didn't reply with "I'm fine." It's so automatic but clearly not true. His response was very human.

he's younger, 40ish, so there's that I could be almost be his dad. At the end of our consult, he stopped talking about my case, went silent for a few seconds, and looked at me- "You know, no one has ever asked me that before."

When we are concerned with our own health, we don't tend to focus on others. It was a blessing for someone to focus on him for a few minutes.

That is true. I'm not ill. I just have a clotting disorder. My wife said the same thing, that it was nice for someone to inquire about the doc's health. I like the guy.
