Act on the Impossible
When your friends say "you're crazy," you're on the right track.
On Monday, I sent out my 500th query for my novel, Consider the Goat. That’s crazy, isn’t it, that I would send out so many queries? I know this book is good. I also know that it is out of the ordinary.
A man and his goat walk the edge of grief and memory in a cemetery where war, blood, and friendship converge. Consider the Goat is a meditation on mortality, friendship, and the beauty of being alive.
Consider the Goat is a story of 2 brave men not afraid to be good men. It celebrates the mundane and the larger than life. It is fearless. It will make you laugh and cry. the Goat echoes the emotional depth of The Art of Racing in the Rain, the philosophical wanderings of On the Road, and the layered humanity of Theo of Golden. It’s a story of humor and hope. And believe me, Amos Schmidt, the protagonist, is a captivating weirdo. Damaged, and weird, and brilliant.
It’s not romantasy. or a beach read. or a spy thriller. or SFF. It will sell hundreds of thousands of copies in the hands of the proper agent and house, but it’s not an easy sell for the very reasons it is deep.
Act on the Impossible? Always.
If you know anyone in the publishing business, an agent on the look-out, someone who knows someone, hook me up? Thanks. #justask
